Microsoft is promising three years of Android updates for its Dual-screen Surface Duo

Google is already providing three years of system updates for its Google Pixel phones, and last week, Samsung announced that it would provide three years of major Android updates for its flagship smartphones starting with the Galaxy S10 Series. Now, Microsoft has confirmed that it will provide three years of software updates for its recently launched dual-screen Surface Duo phone.

This promise includes major system updates and security updates. This is still a bit compared to what Apple provides to its customers, but given that users don't keep their smartphones for long, we don't think this is a big problem for potential Surface Duo owners. Of course, this promise appears normal, given that Microsoft is asking for $ 1,399 for the Surface Duo that includes technical specifications dating back to 2019.

As a reminder, the Surface Duo includes two 5.6-inch OLED screens with FUllHD + resolution for each one, an eight-core Snapdragon 855 processor, as well as a 3577mAh battery.

The Surface Duo also includes a single 11-megapixel camera with a lens with aperture of 2.0 located on the top right of the screen next to the LED flash. Microsoft is promoting the "super zoom" feature with digital zoom up to 7x. This camera is also capable of recording videos in 4K at 60 frames per second and comes with EIS technology.

The most distinctive feature of Surface Duo is its versatility in multitasking, given that this device runs on Android 10 and brings with it a special interface that Microsoft believes will change the rules of gameplay in terms of productivity on the go. Microsoft has reformulated the Office and OneDrive apps specifically for the Surface Duo, and there are third-party apps like Kindle that have also made their way to Surface Duo.

Surface Duo will also work with all existing Android apps and comes with its own algorithms that can predict where you want to display content and how to open new apps alongside each other.

The 360-degree rotatable hinge provides multiple modes of use and different use cases, and both screens come with support for Microsoft's Surface Pen. Moreover, Surface Duo is incredibly thin, only 9.6mm thick when folded. Despite the small capacity of the battery, it is rated as being able to provide 15.5 hours of watching videos saved in the device and up to 27 hours of conversations. Surface Duo also comes with an 18W charger.

The random memory in the Surface Duo is 6GB, while the internal memory is 128GB or 256GB, knowing that it is not expandable via MicroSD. Generally, Surface Duo will be available in the US via T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon. Unfortunately, there is no information available on when the device will be launched globally.
